Sound Test Visit FAQs
-
Our technician will set up a sound source on one side of the floor or wall being tested and measure the level of the sound transmitting through floor or wall. The technician will move from one side of the floor or wall being tested to another, taking measurements and adjusting the equipment. The technician may also repeat the tests in different rooms, depending on the layout of the two properties.
The speaker will be set up in your property and your neighbour’s property, depending on the stage of the test.
-
Depending on the number of tests required, our technician will need access to your property from 1 to 2 hours.
-
We strongly recommend that you vacate the property while tests are being carried out. The sound source generated high noise levels (up to 100dB) and our technician wears ear defenders when performing the tests. If absolutely necessary, you can remain in your property during the tests, but you will need to avoid the room(s) being tested for your safety.
-
No. The sound testing will not damage your property, as it is non-destructive.
-
Please ensure there is a clear route to the room(s) being tested, and that there is clutter-free space for our technician to manoeuvre in the room(s) being tested.
-

-
No. Due to the high noise levels generated, pets cannot be in the property while it is being tested.
-
During the testing, the sound levels will be audible even in rooms not being tested. Therefore, we recommend against trying to have phone conversations, vide calls etc. We need quiet conditions to make sensitive measurements. However, quiet desk-based working in a room other than the one being tested will be possible, though it will be loud for you.
-
Outside of any pre-arranged costs with our client, we will not charge you for the testing.
-
One of our technicians will be at your property for approximately 1 to 2 hours. Our technicians are experienced sound testers. The person who organised the testing will have your technician’s name and phone number.
-
The rooms being tested are the only rooms we will need access to. The person who arranged the testing should be able to confirm which rooms are being tested.
Typically, testing is carried out in habitable rooms such living rooms, kitchens or bedrooms. Internal doors to the rooms being tested will be closed.
